FANZA From Overseas — FAQ

javnavi » FANZA From Overseas — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is FANZA available in my country?

No. DMM publishes a list of its services usable from outside Japan; it is short, and the video stores are not on it. Visitors from abroad are shown an age gate, pushed to a login page, or sent to a dedicated page stating the service is unavailable in their region.

Is my account banned?

No. The block is geographic and happens before anything to do with your account.

Can I just use a VPN?

A VPN with Japanese servers addresses the location check. It does not address payment, which is a separate obstacle. Connecting from abroad is also not something the store supports — DMM’s own troubleshooting advice elsewhere is to disable VPN and proxy connections.

Will my card work?

FANZA’s documentation is inconsistent on this: one page says overseas-issued VISA, JCB and Diners cards can be used, another says customers from overseas cannot pay by credit card. Assume the card path may fail and read the payment guide first.

What are DMM Points?

A prepaid balance in your account. You top it up, then spend it. It matters because it is the route that does not depend on a card being accepted.

Can I download what I buy, or is it streaming only?

Both are offered. Purchased works can be streamed in the browser or downloaded through DMM’s player application for Windows 11 or macOS 11 and later.

How long do I keep what I buy?

It varies by product — some have a viewing period as short as a couple of days, others are unlimited. Unlimited products can be re-downloaded without a stated limit. Check the product page before buying.

Do I need a Japanese connection to watch after buying?

DMM’s published help does not say. What is documented is that playback obtains a licence, and that a work can become unplayable if its DRM information changes. Keeping your Japanese connection available is the cautious approach.

Which devices work?

PC, smartphones, compatible TVs, Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast and PlayStation.

Is any of this legal?

Buying legitimately from a licensed store is the legal route — that is the entire point of this site. VPN use is legal in most countries but not all, and what you do through one remains your responsibility. This is not legal advice.

Why not just use a free site?

Because nobody who made the work is paid, and the performers whose work appears there generally did not agree to it being distributed that way.
